John Adams stated
at the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, "This will be the most
memorable epoch in the history of America . . . It ought to be
commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to
God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with
shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one
end of the continent to the other, from this time forward for evermore."
We believe this
statement is also applicable to the signing [September 17, 1787] and
celebration of the United States Constitution. For the
Constitution is what we did with our freedom.
In 1999, America's
Family Foundation established Ring the Bells of Freedom Festival and is held each year during National Constitution Week,
September 17-23. The purpose for this
Festival is to unite communities, rekindle desires to learn more about
our American heritage, rejuvenate expressions of love for this great
country, to become knowledgeable of our Constitutional laws, and give
thanks to God for the blessings of freedom.
